…takes you back to a time before your time

Drive south on I-35E for about thirty miles, and you’ll suddenly feel like you’re in a gingerbread town, with historical blocks and well-kept buildings with gilded edges. This is Waxahachie [say: wahks-uh-hatch-ee], and its name is a Native American term for “cow creek” or “buffalo creek.”

Most of the livestock are long gone from Waxahachie, but the town remains connected to its cattle-raising roots. In fact, residents here are so careful to preserve history that a handful of movies have been filmed here, including Tender Mercies (1983) and Places in the Heart (1984). It helps that there are only about 20,000 people that live here—kinda makes it feel all quaint and cozy.

Homes range from apartments and townhomes in historic buildings to large estates, which can run from under $100K to over $1 million.
