…when life gives you lemons…

Like the golden olden days when a railroad could make or break a town, freeways in modern times have had the same effect.

Rowlett nearly died in the early sixties when it was bypassed by the newly-constructed I-30. Luckily, some inspired soul in Rowlett had the foresight to recommend an alternative.

Ray Hubbard Lake was built and filled in ’71, making Rowlett into lakefront property nearly overnight. The population quickly grew from roughly 5,000 to more than 50,000 today.

Never a community to let others determine their fate, Rowlett is making the most of its escalating popularity. Along with housing developments and a golf course or two, there’s a charming little Main Street, the Wet Zone Water Park, Pecan Fest, schools run by Garland and Rockwall ISDs, and, oh yeah, that entire lake and the recreational ops that come with it.

But that’s not all. Rowlett recently raised $150 million dollars for general beautification, new parks, improved public facilities, sewer systems, revitalization of the downtown district, and maybe even a tree or two to maintain their designation as a Tree City USA.

Now that’s American ingenuity…if opportunity doesn’t come knocking, make your own.

DART Budget Error Causes Anger and Confusion for the Dallas, Irving and Rowlett Rail Lines

Due to a minor financial forecasting error of, oh, $1 billion dollars – well actually $900,000,00 (but, literally, who’s counting?) – the planned DART rail line projects for Downtown Dallas and Oak Cliff have been trimmed by $350 million and delayed in order to keep the Rowlett and Irving rail lines on schedule.
