Try as we might, we just can’t get the grins off our faces as we mosey on through this town, located just north of Fort Worth.
Seriously. Brick-paved roads, rodeos, an opry, museums, live music venues and bars like Billy Bob’s Texas (complete with BBQ, billiards and beer)—how is it that an area can be this hokey and still be so much fun?
We figure it’s the Texas-“howdy there, little lady”-hospitality, the Old West motif and the real-live cowboys (it’s the only place in the U.S. with daily cattle drives). Though the town has come a long way since 1876, it was still an important part of the cattle industry all the way up to the 1960s, and its commemoration as a historic district in 1976 put a halt to modern-looking development.
There's definitely something to be said for living in the past!
