As one of the oldest communities in the DFW area, settled in 1847, DeSoto has had plenty of time to figure it all out. Diverse, friendly and quaint, this area boasts a great quality-of-life, with a good school system, an active Town Center, parks, rec areas, and a serene setting (it’s sometimes referred to as the “Hill Country of North Texas”) marked by wide open spaces and nearby Joe Pool Lake.
So it’s not surprising that in 2006, the National Civic League awarded this suburban oasis with one of its highest honors—an All-America City recognition, given only to communities whose citizens achieve uncommon results through working together.
One can only hope that when other neighborhoods “grow up,” they'll follow DeSoto's example.
