Dallas Summer Musicals

Every year the Dallas Summer Musicals at Fair Park Music Hall in South Dallas [where: 909 First Avenue, Dallas, Texas, 75210], present a great variety of lighthearted and fun musicals the whole family can enjoy. In addition to the single and season tickets, they offer “mini-packs” of tickets for three shows at a discounted price. They have packages specifically for families that include the children-friendly musicals such as High School Musical or a variety pack that allows you to choose your favorites. Tickets are still on sale for many popular musicals such as High School Musical, The Color Purple and Jersey Boys.

Parking for the Music Hall is free and is a short walk from the parking lot to the door. If you arrive early enough you may be able to catch a courtesy shuttle. They have a few modified golf carts to whisk about 3-4 people from their car to the entrance. They also offer valet parking for $15.00 which might be worth it if you arrive late, otherwise it’s not necessary.

Currently there is construction around Fair Park for the Dart Rail line that is scheduled to be completed in September 2009. The Fair Park Station will be a great addition to the area making it easier to commute to events and the State Fair. Until then, make sure you add some extra time before arriving to a performance for traffic and construction.

Before most performances the Music Hall has kiosks set up with a small selection of fresh salads and sandwiches along with soft drinks and wine. With tables set up in the waiting area for diners, it makes for a nice light lunch before the performance. Food prices are about $8.00 per item, but don’t worry, they take credit cards!

After the performance you can wait outside the entrance near the stage door where many of the performers will come out to chat and give autographs. It’s fun for the kids to see these “celebrities” that are very gracious to spend time answering questions or even having pictures taken.

Next time instead of going to the movies, spend a few extra dollars and check out a musical - it‘s always a good time!
