…home of the State Fair and national heroes

Currently, Pueblo holds the country’s highest number of Medal of Honor recipients per capita, causing President Eisenhower to quip in 1953 that there must have been “something in the water.” Well, there’s nothing in the water as far as we know, but Pueblo is a brave city.

After surviving a major flood in 1921, Pueblo came back strong to produce steel, eventually earning the nickname “steel city.” Now, the area is home to a number of electronics and aviation companies, Colorado State University (who will have a football team come fall of 2008), and the state’s largest single event, the Colorado State Fair.

With so much going on, Pueblo works hard to keep up appearances, and it’s likely you’ll find—among the landscaped, historic streets and quaint shops—more than a few heroes.
