Never heard of Colorado College? Don’t worry, you have company. Many people have never heard of this gem of a school, nestled on a tiny, two block campus, just north of downtown Colorado Springs. This small, liberal arts college has only 2,000 students, and class sizes are as small and intimate as the campus. Life around here has the tendency to feel a bit like Cheers, where everyone knows your name. While this is part of Colorado College’s appeal, sometimes you have to get away. Luckily, there are plenty of places around campus to study, eat, and grab a drink.
Where to Study
When the library gets over crowded (which it does), head on over to Wooglin’s deli. Located just across the street from campus, Wooglin’s is a favorite study spot. Catch up on your reading over one of the deli’s tasty melts or a giant piece of their famous chocolate cake. If you’re a procrastinator, this is also the place for you. Wooglin’s location is close enough to campus to swing by before class. Get in some last-minute studying over a delicious breakfast sandwich, or one of Wooglin’s fresh-baked muffins, which are approximately the size and weight of a small car. If you don’t have time to sit down, but need a jolt of caffeine, stop by B.B. Bean. Located just two doors down from Wooglin’s deli, this local spot roasts and brews its own coffee, which is some of the strongest in town. This java is guaranteed to keep you awake and kickin’ all through class.
Where to Chow Down
We’ve all been there. Dining hall food gets old, and cooking for yourself sometimes isn’t appealing either. Luckily, there are plenty of restaurants downtown, within walking distance from campus. A student fave is Pita Pit, a casual spot that serves up warm pita sandwiches, fast. The best news: they deliver. In the mood for sushi? Check out Fujiyama, another downtown spot, with affordable prices and a relaxing atmosphere. Ladies, be sure to check this place out on Wednesdays, and take advantage of all the food and drink specials just for you.
Where to Unwind
So where do students go to relax once the books are closed? Whether you’re into a casual place to grab a drink or a spot to check out live music, downtown Colorado Springs has a wide range of options. If you want friendly faces and a casual vibe head down to Tony’s, a neighborhood sport’s bar. The owners hail from Wisconsin, so the favored decoration is foam Cheesehead hats, and the pitcher of choice is High Life. Settle in at the bar to watch the game and have a basket of Tony’s famous cheesecurds. Into live music? Check out the Thirsty Parrot, another bar on downtown’s main drag, Tejon. The bar has a great stage and dance floor, so you can get down to the sounds of local cover bands. If you are feeling more like a swanky night on the town, then 15 C is the spot for you. Marked only by a small number plate on an alley door, this chic bar serves up over 50 different kinds of martinis. Stop by on Saturday nights for 15 C’s two-for-one special. But careful: these drinks are huge.
