For years, apartment and condo developers have been heralding the transformation of Uptown from a semi-shady area to a bustling cultural enclave. And, while it’s true that there have been many renovations of classic buildings, new construction, beautification and businesses in the area, parts of Uptown still make you want to quicken your step.

However…there is too much diversity and good stuff in this neighborhood to not consider living here.

If you’re a fan of any great music, it won’t be long until you head up to the Aragon Ballroom or Riviera Theatre. They’re just around the corner from one another and a few doors down from one of Chicago’s most legendary clubs—The Green Mill. This historic hotspot is a former Al Capone haunt, host of nightly live jazz and home to one of the city’s most dynamic Sunday night events, the Uptown Poetry Slam. Get there early to get a seat.

Around Argyle Street and the lake, things change drastically. Nicknamed “Little Saigon,” this ‘hood is populated with Vietnamese restaurants and businesses, interspersed with Asian-influenced storefronts.

The southern part of the area is a quiet, almost suburban pocket of the city called Buena Park. Here you’ll find huge lots, grand homes and apartments on tree-lined streets.
