Roscoe Village

Send to a friend

…where the hipsters live

If you’re young, cool and starting a family, Roscoe Village is the perfect place for you.

Schools are great, restaurants are kid-friendly and nightlife is laid-back and still fun. You can even stave off the out-of-touch-parent syndrome by staying culturally relevant via venues like the art-house movie theater The Music Box, and with live shows at the Mercury Theater and Schuba’s. For post-show drinks, check out the artist-friendly (and basically, everyone-friendly) Four Moon Tavern or the Village Tap. Then wake up for breakfast at Kitsch’n on Roscoe, where the chilaquiles bring people in droves (oh, and be nice to the staff. They’ll remember you for it). There’s the Antique Row on Belmont, tons of boutiques, parks and so much more.

The ‘hood wasn’t always so easy; in fact, for a while, it seemed pretty run-down. In the 80s and 90s, though, Roscoe Village started to redevelop, and the bungalows, two- and three-flats shaped up. Now, this is a moderately expensive living area, close to public transportation via bus and the Brown Line el, and is convenient to main thoroughfares like Western Avenue and Belmont.
