…travel the world in your ‘hood

Your friends know you as the one who’s always jetting off to new locations. For you, Europe is a weekend trip, Central America is your backyard and you can go couchsurfing at friends’ places around the world. But even globetrotters need a home base, and if Chicago’s your answer, then Rogers Park is your style.

One of the largest communities in Chicago, Rogers Park has around 63,000 residents—and they’re all speaking one or more of 80 different languages. Starting at Devon Avenue’s South Asian strip (make sure and stop for a mango lassi and samosa while you’re here), the area opens up into a family-friendly neighborhood where people of all kinds live harmoniously in three-flats, high-rises and courtyard buildings. Not bad for a city that has historically been one of the country’s most segregated.

Head to east Rogers Park for tons of retail and cute coffee shops on Sheridan—this is the stomping ground of many Loyola students, and it’s convenient to the Red Line el. Sure the wind whips something awful in the winter, but the lake views are worth it. And what’s a little wind to an adventurer like you?
