...fun & funky with tons of rehabbed homes

A less-expensive extension of chic River North, Chicago’s River West neighborhood offers an eclectic mix of housing, art galleries, still-empty warehouses and commercial space. Except for the din from the Kennedy, it’s a bit quieter than its neighbors, which means that the two- and three-flats, new townhomes and new and old lofts are a bit (like, a tiny bit) cheaper.

The real draw of this ‘hood is a funky mix of businesses and non-profits. Where else can you find the Woman Made Gallery, the Arc Gallery and the Center for Intuitive & Outside Art all within a few blocks of each other? This is also where Chicago Dramatists Workshop—one of the sources of new plays and theater work for Chicago and beyond—is located.

Italian food, sushi, friendly diners and sleek, elegant bars are also located here. In fact, we’re getting so excited about River West right now that we’re going to go browse apartments…
