…best all around ‘burb

If you’re in the Chicagoland area and looking for something fun to do, you always have at least two distinct options. You can head downtown, or you can avoid the congestion and drive 28 miles west of Chicago, to Naperville. 

Pegged the “kid-friendliest” city in the U.S., and #29 on Money Magazine’s “Best Places to Live and Launch – 2008,” the great schools and community- and family-oriented amenities (like the park district and Centennial Beach) are a perfect fit for the area’s well-kept homes. Nearly 200 subdivisions offer custom-built ranches, colonial-style residences and older brick homes in a prices ranging from $200K to over $1 million.

Apparently the price here is right. As Illinois’ fourth-largest city, this ‘burb is bustling. During the day, shoppers bond over boutiques and bargains in various shopping centers, strip malls and of course at the fabulous shops in the historic downtown blocks. At night, families and couples enjoy theater, movies and some of Chicago’s most popular restaurants including Heaven on Seven, Rosebud and Hugo’s Frog Bar.

But the biggest draw? That’d be the picture-perfect Riverwalk, a four-mile strip along the west branch of the DuPage River, lined with quaint cafés and bistros. A romantic walk here is practically a rite of passage for Chicagoland residents. Summer nights were made for this kind of slow stroll.
