Lincoln Square

…a quiet urban community with an old-world feel

Although there has been no official award, Lincoln Square could earn “cutest neighborhood” status in Chicago.

Located on the northwest side, the influence of German immigrants has resulted in a quaint, old-world, European-style pedestrian square just off the Brown Line Western stop. Here, the Chicago Brauhaus serves authentic Bavarian cuisine and live music six nights a week, and nearby shops like Merz Apothecary, Lutz Café and various small beer houses on Lincoln Avenue hearken back to another time and place. Just wait until Christmas, when lights are strewn along the lampposts, and you feel like you’re in a fairy tale land.

Surrounding the square is an area that remains relatively quiet, despite its increasing popularity, burgeoning independent businesses, growing demand for housing and proximity to local gem the Old Town School of Folk Music, where concerts and music classes are held.

The Chicago River makes for some pleasant scenery, while well-kept Victorian-style homes, 2- and 3-flat graystones and courtyard condo buildings supply the population with a place to hang their hats—and their leiderhosen.
