…cozy and historical

The further you travel uptown, the more likely it is you’ll encounter Chicago’s quiet, suburban-like areas, and Lakewood and Balmoral are no exceptions.

Here you’ll find more lakeside high-rises than you will huge strips of retail. Prairie style and Victorian homes, bungalows and four-plus constructions—most with well-kept gardens—make up the bulk of the buildings in this area, and there is even a handful of structures with Landmark status.

So, it’s peaceful over here, but that doesn’t mean it’s totally dead—just the opposite, in fact. Local businesses are strongly supported by the chamber of commerce and—maybe even more strongly—by locals, which is why unique places like the Fireside Inn, serving the weary and parched since 1904, and Moody’s Pub, whose reputation for burgers stretches “from Joliet to this side of the Arctic Circle” have remained bustling favorites for so long.

Sheridan Road is really convenient for grocery shopping and major retail, as it has strip malls with parking lots and is convenient to the Red Line. Lakewood – Balmoral is an area that’s easy to cozy up to.
