Lakeview and Wrigleyville

…the north side’s biggest social scene

For 24/7 activity, convenience and nightlife, there’s no better go-to ’hood on the north side than Lakeview-Wrigleyville.

Named after its lakeside location and proximity to the “friendly confines” of Wrigley Field, Lakeview - Wrigleyville is twenty-five minutes from the Loop via the el train and even less on a traffic-less LSD (Lake Shore Drive).

There’s so much to do and see in this area that it makes even the most seasoned Chicagoans’ head spin. Clark Street has everything, from long-established storefronts like vintage-and-kitsch retailer Strange Cargo, to local diners like Pick Me Up Café (nothing’s better late-night than the C.A.B. omelette), to shows at iO (formerly ImprovOlympic) and Links Hall.

The Belmont retail strip, stacked with clothing stores, funky gift shops and tattoo parlors, has such a reputation that weekend adventurers from the ’burbs talk of getting on the Metra train to “head to Belmont” nearly as much as they come to Cubs games.

At night and on weekends, the neighborhood is a party, with people hopping from one spot to the next, getting their fill of Miller Lite at Murphy’s Bleachers or Barleycorn, dancing on the bar at HiTops, chilling out at Wild Hare or getting their live music fix at the legendary Metro. If you like people-watching, stand at Addison and Clark late on a Saturday night. It’s educational.

A few blocks away, the neighborhood settles down into residential streets with three-flats and bungalows; after all, Lakeview residents need to sleep sometime. Rents and homes in this area are moderately pricey—hey, it costs a bit to be in the middle of the party!
