Hyde Park

…a haven for culture addicts and history buffs

For many reasons, Hyde Park is one of Chicago’s most famous neighborhoods.

Situated on the south side along Lake Michigan, it has been home to several notable figures in history including Marshall Field, Muhammad Ali and currently, Barack Obama. Esteemed institutions like the University of Chicago and the Court Theatre are also located here.

Hyde Park’s diversity has long been a source of its pride. It’s one of the most racially-integrated urban areas in the nation—a feat that, in one of the most segregated cities in the U.S., is pretty amazing. Its population of students, adults and seniors of Black, White, Asian and Hispanic origin create a vibrant community that’s likely to linger in conversation about politics, literature, and art at the barbershop or yummy Valois Cafeteria on 53rd. Have some mac n’ cheese for us while you’re there!

Once considered a suburb, Hyde Park still boasts lush, tree-lined streets and luxurious homes, overgrown with ivy and culture. Prices range from high-moderate to expensive, but if you’re looking for a socially progressive, economically thriving, breathtakingly gorgeous community, you’ll agree it’s well worth it.
