…green parks and blue collars

Hermosa and the surrounding Park-Garden neighborhoods make up an area that’s beginning to bounce back from hard times in the 1990s, enjoying an influx of activity, beautification projects and development. Although the population here is more than 80% Hispanic, you’ll still find the occasional sign of the neighborhood’s Swedish roots.

Located toward the city border, there aren’t a ton of restaurants or nightlife options. But in this blue-collar, family-oriented community, that’s not the point. Each ’hood contains the park it’s named after, so there are still plenty of opportunities for play and relaxation, like golf courses, playgrounds, paths and open areas.

Home prices range from the low $100,000s to more than $300,000, and rents are among the cheapest on the north side. New construction and development is bringing a large amount of businesses and residents to the area. Our conclusion? A great opportunity if you don’t need to be up-close-and-personal with downtown.
