… come, play—and one day, stay

One of the most fun day trips for nature-loving Chicagoans is hopping on the Green Line and heading to the Garfield Park Conservatory. Covering 4.5 acres near the middle of the city, the Conservatory is one of the largest in the country. Regular special events and year-long exhibits keep the area booming—and blooming—with things to do and see. Adjacent to the Conservatory is the 185-acre Garfield Park offering athletic fields, a gym, basketball and tennis courts, jogging paths, a swimming pool and a field house.

Unfortunately, for all the bounty that is Garfield Park and the Conservatory, this area has remained relatively dangerous for years, only recently experiencing some revitalization. On the bright side, Business Week did name East Garfield Park one of “America’s Hottest Neighborhoods” in March 2007 issue. Vintage construction, easy access to downtown and a gem of a park make it an attractive area to buy or rent—if the streets can be kept safe.
