...more than ba gua mirrors and dim sum

Located two miles south of the Loop, just west of the Cermak-Chinatown Red Line el stop, you’ll find numerous Chinese banks and businesses, as well as a plethora of inexpensive Asian grocery stores and restaurants, good for late-night eats or elaborate dim sum brunches.

While many Chicagoans’ exposure to Chinatown is limited to driving past its grand gate as they fly down the Dan Ryan, this area is the third-largest Chinatown in the U.S., boasting one of the largest concentrated Chinese populations in the country. Even today, immigrants from China and Taiwan settle here as they acclimate themselves to Western culture.

Housing is relatively inexpensive, but completely limited until the area expansion—which will add more than 300 new residencies—is complete. Until then, you’ll have to make do with a brief commute to the Chinese New Year celebration.
