Near the busy intersection of Devon and Central in Edgebrook, lies a timeless toy store. Unlike the mega-toy stores, Cut-Rate is a smaller store but their inventory is what makes them unique. They have everything that a boy or girl could want. Many of the toys they sell are educational and really cool. From all-in-one science labs to ant farms, everything is distinctive and kids really enjoy them.
Cut-Rate Toys on Devon is a familiar sight that has been in business for over 50 years. My mother used to tell me tales of watching frantic mothers literally fighting each other to get a Cabbage Patch Doll during Christmas time in 1984. She also told me about the time that she waited outside the store for 90 minutes to buy me the latest Star Wars figures. The aisles are filled with toys of both yesterday and today. On a recent visit, my family and I spent almost an hour perusing all the great items. I have decided to try and do all our Christmas shopping for our children there.
Cut-Rate Toys is open everyday and really gets busy around Christmas time. Parking is somewhat limited but there are parking meters in front of the store. They don’t have an official website from what I could find. Cut Rate Toys is located at 5409 West Devon Ave. About one block east of the Edgebrook Metra station.
